Funny What Mom Actually Wants for Mothers Day
So many of us struggle to remember when Mother's Day comes around. By the time it does, we are forced to stop whatever we're doing, rush to the store, and buy flowers and chocolates for our beloved moms. However, in this day and age, when we are constantly getting reminders through social media and the internet, in general, we have no excuse when it comes to those big occasions – Mother's Day included. If you haven't got time to buy your mother a gift, there's always social media. The following tweets show that we can find creative, albeit non-tangible ways of showing mom that we care.
Mother's Day Getaway
This tweet highlights how important experience is, and motherhood is no different. As Ramblin Mama points out, what new mothers want out of Mother's Day is to be pampered by their families, yet this will inevitably fade away.
Young mom: I hope he plans something nice for Mother's Day.
Veteran mom: I booked my hotel room for Saturday night and will be back late Sunday.
— Ramblin Mama (@ramblinma) May 9, 2019
Give the new mother a few more years of motherhood and she will know exactly what she wants: a break! So for next year, if you want to really to say thanks to mom, see if she wants a weekend getaway while you get the house in tip-top condition for when she returns.
World's Worst Son
Here's one mother and son pair who knows that sometimes, there's nothing more liberating than letting go of expectations. Not all kids can turn out the way their moms want – come to think of it, most kids probably never do.
Bought my mom a mug that says "Happy Mother's Day from the World's Worst Son." I forgot to mail it to her, but I think she knows.
— Dan O'Brien (@OtherDanOBrien) May 11, 2014
And then there are some adult children who apparently can't even get it together to send mom a gift for Mother's Day, and Dan O'Brien is self-aware enough to know that he definitely falls into that category. He may be a horrible son, but at least we got this funny tweet out of it.
Now That's Real Patriotism
It's a famous line from history – "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Leave it to a sassy mom to take this quote and use it to her advantage for Mother's Day.
This Mother's Day ask not what your mother can do for you, ask what you can do for your mother and then do it the first time she asks.
— MyQuestionableLife (@2questionable) May 8, 2017
Moms get a hard time from kids when they simply don't feel like cooperating – this may be the toughest part of parenting there is. So the best thing kids can do to honor Mom on this day – beyond the brunches, flowers and cards – is to simply be obedient!
Solid Reasoning
At a certain point in a child's life, all they want is presents. It doesn't matter what for, just as long as it's an awesome surprise. Birthdays, Christmas, QuinceaƱeras: what are these worth if there are no gifts involved?
This kid knew it was a gamble to argue he deserves a present on Mother's Day, but he went all in, anyway. We admire Joshua's courage and wish him the best of luck in surviving the "gift" he is about to receive from his mother.
House Arrest
As a mother, if you're lucky enough, you might have a bunch of kids who are grateful enough to conjure up a surprise for you on Mother's Day. Who would have thought that you'd bring these creative creatures into the world?
Nicole McKinley simply had to wait in her bed after one of her children wrote a message, warning her not to exit her bedroom before 10am. Not only is Nicole wondering what they were doing, we want to know what the surprise was too!
House Of Cards
They say that a picture tells a thousand words. However, when you are using a social media tool that only allows 280 characters per tweet, you better make sure that your photo's a good one.
@WatersWife knew this well enough and on the evening before Mother's Day, she perfectly captured the half an hour that millions of men are going through to ensure that their mothers are happy. It's amazing to see so many men line up to choose the perfect card.
Ain't That The Truth
We all have moms. It's the one thing that unites humans more than anything else. Which means that everyone knows that look that a mom gets in her eye when she's trying to tell you something and you contradict her in any way.
Mother knows best, doesn't she? Well, she certainly always thinks she does… and even when she's wrong, it's probably in your best interest to at least pretend to go along with what she's saying. The person who came up with that saying must have been a mother herself!
Thanks A Lot, Son
Young children have the best way of telling their moms the cold hard truth, but being so cute and funny about it that one couldn't possibly get offended.
This young boy decided to wax poetic for Mother's Day, and let the world know that even when Mom hasn't showered for a while, she still smells ok to him! And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why people have children – so that they can tell you that you stink to high heaven… but they love you anyway.
DIY Mother's Day
Some mothers are pampered and spoiled from sunrise to sunset on Mother's Day, waking up to a homemade breakfast in bed, followed by receiving gifts they actually want and spending an enjoyable day being treated like the queen of the family.
Mother's Day to-do list:
1. Make reservations for own brunch
2. Buy own present
3. Prepare for Mother's Day glory to be usurped by MiL
Check— Sarah del Rio (@sarahdelri0) May 2, 2016
However, as this tweet shows, that's probably representative of about .01% of all mothers in the world! This hilarious, self-described "mother of one, grower of chin hairs" knows how Mother's Day actually goes down for the rest of us.
Regular Fighting Vs. Mother's Day Fighting
Mother's Day can make a mom feel like a million bucks. But unfortunately, even on Mother's Day, the parenting doesn't stop – and this "truth bomb" mom is here to expose the gritty reality of this day that moms are supposedly meant to enjoy.
Mother's Day is great b/c you get to wake up to your kids fighting over who gets to give you your card first instead of regular fighting.
— the Mom TruthBomb (@momTruthBomb) May 14, 2017
Think the kids will maybe make an attempt to stop fighting each other for just one, blessed day and give Mom some peace and quiet? Think again! This mom knows that Mother's Day is just like any other day, with a bouquet of flowers and a card thrown in.
Next Husband, Please
The following tweet just goes to show that context makes all the difference. While this lady is calling out her husband on social media for forgetting Mother's Day, it's unclear who he forgot it for.
Not a joke, husband forgot Mother's Day. My next husband won't do this.
— kelly oxford (@kellyoxford) May 12, 2013
Did he forget to send his own mother a message? Or was @kellyoxford expecting her hubby to write "Happy Mother's Day" to her? There's also a chance that it was his responsibility to remind his kids about the monumental occasion. At any rate, hubby's got some explaining to do.
Macaroni Day
While mother's day is meant to be a day that we celebrate our mothers and the gift that they have given us i.e. life, it's also important for us to remember that it's still just another day for them to act like mothers anyway!
Mother's Day is a special day when I get to do the dishes and yell at people to stop making siren noises while I wear a macaroni necklace.
— Walking Outside In Slippers (@WalkingOutside) May 8, 2016
So, while the presents and thank you cards are a great idea (and certainly helps to make mothers feel better), you have to remember that she's still going to be cleaning the dishes, running after the kids, and tidying up the mess! So be kind!
Toe Stubbing
It's not uncommon for children to get up to mischief pretty easily, and while this is usually a source of great stress for parents, it can apparently also be a source of great humor!
In this case, it seemed as though mom had been called out for laughing at her son for having stubbed his toe. Clearly, it wasn't a serious medical emergency, but mom felt as though it was definitely worth an honorable mention for the 'twisted humor' awards!
Second Place Goes To…
Sending cheeky messages to your loved ones can be acceptable depending on the type of relationship you have with them. However, we'd recommend making sure that your Mother's Day messages are sincere and to the point, leaving no room for interpretation.
Happy Mother's Day to the best, sweetest, most caring mother in the world and also to my mom!
— Justin Shanes (@justinshanes) May 12, 2014
Just imagine Justin's mother's face as she read this tweet all the way to the end. What's wrong with this guy?! There is a chance that he's just joking and that both his wife and his mom are both fantastic mothers. Maybe…
Who's Amy?
There's nothing more cherishing than a mother teaching her young daughter how to cook food in the kitchen for the first time. While it might seem a bit cliche, being able to cook is a wonderful skill that anyone should have.
There's also nothing strange about a mother asking her child whether she thinks she's a good mother or not, but referring to her by the wrong name! It looks like mom might have some explaining to do!
Writing's On The Wall
While some people bake cakes, buy chocolates, and treat their moms to a trip to her favorite restaurant on Mother's Day, others might decide to think more outside the box to show their love.
When one lucky mom stepped out of her house on a snowy Mother's Day (not sure where the photo was taken), she was lost for words, for more reasons than one. As soon as she said thanks to her kids for a heartwarming message, she ordered them to take it down immediately.
Maternal Media
It seems like the benefits of Mother's Day, at least, according to this Tweeting mother, is two-fold. Not only does she expect warm messages from her offspring, but she also expects to get pampered by them.
Mother's Day is a great day to relax and make sure you prove how much your kids love you on social media
— Ally (@TragicAllyHere) May 4, 2016
With just one sentence, @TragicAllyHere makes it crystal clear that today, it's all about her. She spends most days caring for her teenagers, feeding them and cleaning their clothes, amongst other things. So all she's going to do today is kick back, relax and check her Tweets.
Stretching The Truth
It seems as though little Adrian has a few things wrong about his mother, although his perception of her is really quite charming. His mother, Ally, simply had to laugh when she perused the list of answers that he had handed in.
The 31-year-old was, in fact, a hardworking mom who had absolutely no time to simply sit around on the couch all day! She also touts a wider variety of skills than a mere dishwasher and we're sure she cooks great too! Give your mom some credit!
Just Wants Some Zzzzs
Just ask any mother on a good day, and she'll tell you that being a mom is one of the most special, rewarding, amazing jobs she could ever wish for. However, ask her after she hasn't slept in three days due to a crying baby or kids with nightmares, and she might not speak so highly of the position.
7y.o: "Mom, what do you want for Mother's Day?"
Me: "Sleep."
7: "Haha, no seriously, Mom; something REAL."
Exactly.
— Stephanie Ortiz (@Six_Pack_Mom) April 24, 2017
Kids don't always see and appreciate how much their mothers do for them, so when this mom asked for some real sleep on Mother's Day, her son thought it was a joke. But this is definitely no joke. Poor mom…
Who's Listening?
There are only so many women in the world who really know what this must feel like. While it's one thing for younger people to be so caught up in the rush-rush lifestyle that comes with the modern day and age to ignore one another, mothers have known this for decades already!
The rule is that if there is a woman speaking and no one is listening – she's most likely your mother! Let's try and change that, as our mothers are an invaluable wealth of knowledge!
Humble Brag!
There's nothing cringe-worthy than a badly timed humble-brag! If the internet has proven anything, it's that there is a time and place for everything! However, this e-card does some justice to the idea of humble-bragging.
This is mainly because every mother wants to know that they at least succeeded to some degree with raising their kids well. This post is both an affirmation of a mothers success and a little personal flare. Well done mom!
"So Sorry…"
Kids do the darnest things, even when they are no longer kids. When the store Aaron walked into had no more Mother's Day cards left, he refused to admit defeat.
Instead of looking around to see if he could find another Mother's Day card at the next store over, Aaron insisted on showing his creativity off to his mother by modifying a condolence greeting card that he picked up. Even if that's the biggest pain she suffered because of him, maybe he should be apologizing for all the pain he caused since then.
Jurassic Mom
While many moms are happy to just relax and wait for their kids to send them gifts and warm messages on Mother's Day, others are happy to write a message or two of their own to celebrate the day.
However, we don't think we've ever come across a mom who has dedicated her entire Twitter account to dressing up as a T-Rex. If you get a moment, make sure to check out her other tweets – you can't make this mother up!
A Thankless Job
Moms only really get one day in the year where the whole family takes a moment to stop and thank them. Besides that, it's a thankless job 364 days a year. If everyone pitched in just a little bit more around the house to pick up after themselves, mothers would have such an easier time.
"What do you want for Mother's Day?" my 10 year old asks, as he steps over the lacrosse stick he left in the middle of the dining room floor for the past 3 days.
— Domestic Goddess (@DomesticGoddss) May 7, 2019
Indeed, in most cases that's all they really want. Instead of a New Years resolution this year, make a Mother's Day resolution to help her just a little bit more!
Everyday Is Kid's Day
When the modern-day Mother's Day tradition began, it was initiated by older grown-ups who made the big mistake of not consulting the kids. Flowers, greeting cards, and well-wishes aside, what really ends up happening on Mother's Day is exactly what happens on every other day: Mom makes sure the kids are taken care of.
"Mom, make me cereal."
"It's Mother's Day, you make ME cereal."
"Well when's Kid's Day?"
"It's every day."
"See? YOU should make ME cereal."— Brenna Jennings (@ogbrenna) May 12, 2013
It would be really great if the whole family would step it up just once a year and take the load off of Mom's shoulders, but that never happens.
Mother's Day Brunch
One of the time-honored traditions of Mother's Day is taking Mom out to brunch. Pampering her in this way is meant to show how unique she is, and it works like a charm.
Each time, she looks extremely grateful to her wonderful family for honoring her when she gets up from her seat after Mother's Day brunch, and yet it's one of the most standard things to do. Somehow, the flowers and cards make them overlook this fact, so let's keep this between us… she can never know.
